Nechisar National Park

Overview

Nechisar National Park is a diverse and scenic protected area in southern Ethiopia, located between Lakes Abaya and Chamo near the town of Arba Minch. The park is known for its striking landscapes, ranging from open grasslands and acacia woodlands to groundwater forests and lakeshore wetlands. Nechisar’s wide plains, often referred to as the "Bridge of God," provide classic safari scenery, while the nearby lakes support rich aquatic ecosystems. The park is one of the best places in Ethiopia to experience a combination of wildlife viewing, birdlife, and dramatic Rift Valley landscapes in a single destination.

Nechisar National Park supports a variety of wildlife adapted to grassland and woodland habitats. Large herbivores are commonly seen grazing on the open plains, while riverine forests and lakeshores provide shelter for smaller mammals. Although predators are present, sightings are infrequent, making Nechisar more rewarding for general wildlife viewing than for big-cat encounters.
