The tour starts from Addis Ababa and ends in Addis Ababa. It covers danakil depression at all which includes dalol, Erta ale volcano, salt lakes and salt mining areas. The departure route is via Semera for a while until tigray region will be very stable and open for tourism. We have been operating this tour via route mekelle since the war launched in tigray, northern region of Ethiopia. And after the cease fire agreement we started the tour via Semera considering the safety of tourists and waiting until the stability and security become very confidential. And now we are operating it based on different group sizes in respective of tourist requests and affordable prices. Day 1 - fly Addis Ababa to Semera at 7:15am. And our guides will welcome you in Semera airport and takes to our office in Semera until the tour starts at 9:30am. After visiting salt lake and other things around, camping in hamedila. Day 2 - visit dalol, sulfur lake, oil lake, salt mining area and the people digging salts and loading camels to travel to berahle. Overnight Erta ale volcano camping. Day - visit Erta ale in the morning and heading to lake Afdera and proceed to Semera to catch the flight at 5:17pm.

- Day 1 - Drive to Asale lake (lake karum)The trip departs from Semera at 9:30am in the morning. You drive about 4-5 hours to Hamedilla via Afdera. Afdera is a small town in Afar region with a population of about 10000 peoples. Danakil has favorable conditions, rocky coast, sustenance and uncomfortable places, unpleasant and not offering hospitality regions of the world, but it has many enchanting natures and different kinds of colors with elements rich in minerals with a lot of salt water springs and bubbling oil lakes. It has different places with different points of altitudes below sea level. They are lying more than 100 meters below sea level. After you eat your lunch in the town of Afdera and proceed to Hamedilla. On the way you will see different outstanding landscapes and the local people’s culture and their beautiful way of life. Taking your sun set time in the salt lake Assale (-121 below sea level) and camping at Hamedilla. Overnight: Camping at Hamedilla

- Day 2 - Visit dalol & Erta ale volcanoEarly morning drive to Dalol which has many different water springs. The sulfur lake, oil lake, salt mining area with camel caravans, salt mountains etc.. You look at all the sites and watch how the salt is dug from the ground and loaded onto camels in the mining place. And visit each place following the guides and with the local people who know the place very well. And drive to Erta Ale and overnight there. Overnight: Erta Ale

- Day 3 - Erta ale, Afdera lake, back to SemeraAt 5.30am early in the morning you will see the striking activities of the volcano during the daytime. You will be back to the camp 30 minutes trekking down. You will pass with scattered small desert trees and an igneous rock from the many years of eruption of the volcano. And you will eat your breakfast on the camp Askoma. After 1 hour rest and arranging of cooking materials and all the sleeping materials, you will proceed to Lake Afdera for lunch. You can swim in this salt lake. And then proceed back to Semera and fly back to Addis.

Most of the visitors arrive at the Bole International Airport (ADD) in Addis Ababa. Usually, the Safari operator picks you up at the airport and takes care of any travel arrangements from there. If you are already in the region it’s possible to get in by land from Sudan, Kenya and Djibouti. It is best to stay away from the borders of South Sudan and Somalia. Drive-around tours are also available (especially in southern Ethiopia). Even when flying around, covering some distances by car can be very rewarding as you'll see some of the Ethiopian countrysides.
