    Early in the morning, depart from Dire Dawa and drive back to Addis Ababa. Enjoy the refreshing morning atmosphere and scenic landscapes along the road as the sun rises over eastern Ethiopia.

  • Day 1 - Drive from Addis Ababa to Dire Dawa

    Drive from Addis Ababa to the vibrant city of Dire Dawa through the scenic landscapes of eastern Ethiopia. Along the way, enjoy beautiful mountain views, traditional villages, local markets, and opportunities to observe different bird species and everyday rural life. Stop for refreshments and photography at some of the region’s most impressive viewpoints. Upon arrival in Dire Dawa, check in to your hotel and enjoy an overnight stay in one of Ethiopia’s most multicultural cities.

  • Day 2 - Drive to Harara to have Culture Safari

    After breakfast, drive to the ancient walled city of Harar, one of Ethiopia’s most historic and culturally rich destinations. Explore the narrow alleyways, colorful markets, traditional Harari houses, and historic mosques within the old city. Experience the unique lifestyle, traditions, and hospitality of the Harari people while discovering the city’s rich history and vibrant culture. In the evening, enjoy the famous hyena feeding experience before an overnight stay in Harar.

  • Day 3 - Drive to Babille

    After breakfast, drive to Babile Elephant Sanctuary for an exciting wildlife safari experience. The area is home to fascinating wildlife including Hamadryas baboons, Anubis baboons, warthogs, dik-diks, and a variety of bird species. Enjoy the dramatic landscapes, rocky valleys, and the unique semi-arid environment of eastern Ethiopia. The weather in Babile is usually warm and dry, making it perfect for an authentic African safari atmosphere. After exploring the sanctuary and surrounding areas, continue enjoying the beautiful scenery and local culture before overnight stay.

  • Day 4 - Exploring the this large sanctury

    After breakfast, continue your adventure deep inside Babile Elephant Sanctuary for a full-day wildlife safari. Drive through rugged off-road tracks in search of the rare African elephants and enjoy the raw beauty of the semi-arid wilderness. If elephants are not spotted from the vehicle, continue the experience on foot with experienced local scouts, walking along forest trails and natural wildlife paths for a closer encounter with nature.

    Throughout the day, look out for Hamadryas baboons, Anubis baboons, warthogs, dik-diks, and diverse bird species in their natural habitat. In the evening, set up camp inside the sanctuary and enjoy a true wilderness experience under the stars, surrounded by the sounds of nature and the untouched African bush.

  • Day 5 - Drive back to Addis

    After an early breakfast, depart from Babile Elephant Sanctuary and drive back toward Addis Ababa. Upon arrival, enjoy a short city exploration, including key highlights, local markets, cultural spots, and panoramic viewpoints of the capital.

    In the afternoon, continue your journey eastward to Dire Dawa. Enjoy the scenic drive through changing landscapes and small towns along the way. Arrive in the evening and check in for an overnight stay in Dire Dawa, preparing for the final day of the journey.

Getting There

Ethiopia, situated in the famous Horn of Africa, is known as both the Land of Origins and the Land of a Thousand Smiles. Most of the visitors arrive at the Bole International Airport (ADD) in Addis Ababa. Usually, the Safari operator picks you up at the airport and takes care of any travel arrangements from there. If you are already in the region it’s possible to get in by land from Sudan, Kenya and Djibouti. It is best to stay away from the borders of South Sudan and Somalia. Drive-around tours are also available (especially in southern Ethiopia). Even when flying around, covering some distances by car can be very rewarding as you'll see some of the Ethiopian countrysides.

  • For certain countries, A tourist visa can also be issued on arrival at Bole International Airport.
  • When arriving from a country in Africa or the Americas where yellow fever is present, a yellow fever vaccination certificate is required.
