- Day 1 - Addis Ababa – Wenchi Crater Lake – Eco Adventure & Camping
Early morning departure from Addis Ababa toward the breathtaking Wenchi Crater Lake, one of Ethiopia’s most beautiful volcanic crater lakes surrounded by dramatic landscapes, forests, waterfalls, and traditional villages.
Upon arrival, begin a full eco-tour adventure through the highland scenery. Enjoy a guided horseback ride descending toward the crater while experiencing panoramic viewpoints and local Oromo village life. Cross traditional wooden bridges and walk through beautiful green landscapes rich with birdlife and indigenous vegetation.
Continue with a relaxing boat trip across the crater lake to visit the historic Kirkos Monastery, located on a peaceful island surrounded by stunning nature. Explore the monastery area, learn about local spiritual traditions, and enjoy the tranquility of the lake environment.
Later, experience the natural hot springs and traditional volcanic mud bath known for relaxation and local wellness practices. After enjoying the hot spring area, return to camp and spend the evening around a campfire under the stars surrounded by the peaceful atmosphere of Wenchi. Overnight camping near the crater lake.

Wake up to the fresh mountain air and spectacular sunrise over Wenchi Crater Lake. After breakfast, continue exploring the crater through scenic eco-tour walks, meeting local communities and learning about traditional lifestyles, farming systems, and the natural environment of the region.
Enjoy additional horseback riding opportunities, photography stops, birdwatching, and short trekking routes around the crater rim and lakeside landscapes. Visit waterfalls, forest trails, and traditional village areas while experiencing the peaceful beauty of Ethiopia’s highlands.
After lunch, begin the drive back to Addis Ababa, arriving in the late afternoon with unforgettable memories of nature, culture, adventure, and camping at Wenchi Crater Lake.

Ethiopia, situated in the famous Horn of Africa, is known as both the Land of Origins and the Land of a Thousand Smiles. Most of the visitors arrive at the Bole International Airport (ADD) in Addis Ababa. Usually, the Safari operator picks you up at the airport and takes care of any travel arrangements from there. If you are already in the region it’s possible to get in by land from Sudan, Kenya and Djibouti. It is best to stay away from the borders of South Sudan and Somalia. Drive-around tours are also available (especially in southern Ethiopia). Even when flying around, covering some distances by car can be very rewarding as you'll see some of the Ethiopian countrysides.
