Overview

Linyanti is in the northern part of Botswana and part of the greater Chobe National Park. The Linyanti's remote area is one of its significant advantages and the land encompassing the Linyanti River, Kwando River and other water bodies is a combination of lagoons and swamps, wandering streams, open grassland and riverine forest which attracts large herds of animals, particularly elephant. The four lodges in Linyanti Swamp (also Linyanti Game Reserve) are controlled by the well-established Wilderness Safaris, which implies exclusivity, immaculate service and brilliant guiding.

Wildlife & Animals

Linyanti swamp is home to a decent populace of large mammals – herds of buffalo, elephants and zebras – as well as several species of predators including cheetahs, leopards, lions and wild dogs. Linyanti likewise has its portion of different herbivores like giraffes, eland, sable and hippos. The water-loving red lechwe is plentiful, and more uncommon antelope species incorporate roan and sable antelope. Night drives are important for the everyday program in Linyanti, and a portion of the animal categories that may be spotted into the evening are the springhare, which leans toward the Kalahari sands, lesser bushbaby, aardwolf, serval, large spotted genet, and maybe even the elusive pangolin.

Wildlife Highlights

The Linyanti is probably the best spot in Africa to see the wild dogs and the best ideal opportunity to do so is during July and August when they are denning and the youthful puppies begin to rise out of the dens. This reserve is also important for a big ecosystem and most enormous safari animals are residents or migrate through. The reserve lies on an elephant migration course, and in the Dry season, elephant numbers are incredible. During the wet months, from November to April, the region is home to the calving and migration of zebra.

Best Time for Wildlife Viewing

The best time for game drives in Linyanti Swamp is in the months between May to October. These dry months bring thirsty crowds to the rivers and lagoons. Zebra migration can be witnessed during the wet season. Zebras give birth to their young in November and gather around Linyanti between February and April.

Birds

Bird viewing is extraordinary in Linyanti swamp, offering both Okavango specials, like slaty egret and wattled crane, just as the drier mopane forest species, like white-headed black chat, racket-tailed roller and coqui francolin. The park’s resident carmine bee-eaters are a great draw for birders and are often seen nesting on the river banks. During the green season, the park is full of thousands of birds that migrate to the Linyanti Wildlife Reserve. Night drives offer an opportunity to spot nocturnal species like owls, courses and nightjars.

Best Time for Birding

The best time to visit Linyanti Wildlife Reserve for excellent bird watching is from January to March. These months are referred to as the Green Season when migratory birds are available. It is also the time when a lot of birds can be seen in breeding plumage.
