Summary 7 Days Machame is an itinerary that gives impressive views and a variety of habitats. About 50% of all climbers and most seasoned climbers choose the Machame route. It also one of the cheaper routes due to easy access and shorter itinerary. Key things to note: -The trek starts at Machame gate, which is in the southern foothills of the mountain. You will be driven to the starting gate from your hotel in Moshi. The drive to the gate takes about 1 hour. -You will summit on the 5th day of this itinerary. -You need to arrive in Moshi at least one day before the starting the trek because the head guide will need to check your trekking gears and give you a brief.

  • Day 1 - Machame Gate to Machame Camp
    Elevation (m): 1830m to 3100m Elevation (ft): 6000ft to 10,200ft Hiking Time: 4-5 hours Habitat: Montane Forest The trek starting gate is located on the southern of mountain Kilimanjaro which takes about 1 hour to reach from Moshi. Early trekking will give you chance to have lunch in the judge, enjoying conversation with guides and learning more about Tanzania culture and experienced the wildness of Mountain Kilimanjaro. After registration and all the formalities, with the porters and guides you leave the park gate and walk through the rain forest on a winding trail up a ridge with presence of colobus monkey, blue monkey, hiking through the rainforest with presence of wet and muddy willencourage the uses of trekking poles.

  • Day 2 - Machame camp to Shira camp
    Elevation (m): 3100m to 3840m Elevation (ft): 10,200ft to 12,600ft Walking Time: 4-5 hours Habitat: Moorland Second day on whiskey route after breakfast,briefing .We leave the glades of the rain forest and continue on an ascending path, crossing the valley walking along a steep rocky ridge,covered with heather, and this make Machame unique. Presence of steep hill will give great and amazing view and blue sky with cloud behind

  • Day 3 - Shira Camp to Lava Tower to Barannco Camp
    Elevation (m): 3840m to 4630m to 3940m Elevation (ft): 12,600ft to 12,800ft Walking Time: 5-7 hours Habitat: Semi-desert Today’s trek will be challenging, and you will experience hike high, slow low phenomenon. We will first hike up to Lava Tower camp which is 4630 m, then go down to our final destination of the day, the Barannco camp

  • Day 4 - Barannco camp ( 3,940m) to Karanga Camp ( 4,200m)
    Hike time: 3.5 hrs. Elevation change: +95 m Estimated distance: 4km/2.5 miles Final elevation: 3,995 m After a heavy breakfast we will start the famous scramble on the great Barannco wall. This 257-meter rock may seem intimidating, but follow the instructions from your guide, and you will be on top of it after about 2 hours. At the top of the Barannco wall you will have great views of blue sky and clouds. Get your camera ready because the views here are deserved a picture and video. After concurring the Barannco wall will continue the trek along the southern circuit trail until we reach another scenic location of Karanga Camp. Those who take the 7 days Lemosho itinerary will not camp at Karanga, instead they will continue with the hike up to Barafu camp.

  • Day 5 - Karanga camp (3,995m) to Barafu camp (4,673 m)
    Hike time: 4 hours Elevation change: +600 m/+1,968 ft Estimated distance: 4km/2.5 miles Final elevation: 4,600 m/15,091 ft Today we are heading for the final campsite before the summit attempt. We expect to arrive at Barafu base camp in the afternoon, ready for you to eat and rest. We normally advice our clients to stay 2 nights at Barafu camp so they can start summit in the morning and descend back to the base camp in evening for a sleep over before descending to the final gate the next day. However, the head guide will make the final decision if the clients can stay at the base camp for an extra day or not.

  • Day 6 - Barafu Camp ( 4,673m) to the summit (5,895 m) and then to Mw
    Summit time: 7 hrs. Elevation change: +1,222 m Estimated distance: 5km/3.2 miles Final elevation: 5,895 m Descent time: 5 hrs. Elevation change: -2,795 m/-9,186 ft Estimated distance: 12km/7.5 miles Final elevation: 3,100 m This is it! You up for the challenge of a lifetime. May be the hardest thing you have ever done. Struggling to breath, headaches, legs pain, on the way to summit are normal things. You need to focus and stick together with the team. Your mental and physical strength will be tested to the limit. But in the end, you will forget all the struggle, tiredness once you see the Uhuru sign. The guides will be there to inspire and support you. They will also take care of your health, noticing every sign of possible problem that may be danger to you.

  • Day 8 - Mweka camp ( 3,100m/10,170ft) to Mweka Gate ( 1,640m)
    Descent time: 4 hrs. Elevation change: -1,460 m Estimated distance: 10km/6.21 Final elevation: 1,640 m Today is a short walk towards rainforest with presence blue monkey, colobus monkey, fresh air from nature .Memory about the struggle and pain will remind how beautifully it was, at few moments of walking you will reach Mweka Gate.

  • Day 8 - Departure
    After resting for a while in your hotel from your trek later in the evening our driver will pick you up from your hotel room and transfer you to the airport for your onward flight or if you wish to add an extra night that can as well be arranged.
