Tour Features

Maswa Game Reserve covers approximately 2,200 to 2,760 square kilometers and is characterized by open plains, rolling hills, dense thickets, rocky kopjes, and seasonally dry rivers with permanent waterholes. This diverse landscape supports a rich variety of wildlife, making it a crucial dry-season refuge for many animals from the Serengeti, especially during the calving season when large wildebeest herds are often present. Unlike national parks, Maswa allows for more flexible activities, including guided bush walks which are often restricted in the Serengeti. It boasts a high density of predators, particularly lion and leopard, and is home to the Big Five (though black rhino sightings are rare). Other notable species include large herds of elephants, buffalo, zebra, various antelopes (including the rare roan antelope and greater/lesser kudu), cheetahs, and diverse birdlife (over 400 species, with some endemic to the Serengeti ecosystem). A 2-day camping safari from Mwanza is an exciting way to explore this hidden gem.

Another unique activity in Maswa is a guided bush walk. Accompanied by an armed ranger, you'll explore the reserve on foot, allowing for a more intimate encounter with the environment. Your guide will point out animal tracks, insects, birds, and various plant species, offering a deeper understanding of the ecosystem. This also provides fantastic photographic opportunities from a different perspective. In the afternoon, head back to your campsite to enjoy final bush lunch. After lunch pack up your belongings ready for departure to Mwanza. Bid farewell to Maswa Game Reserve as you begin your drive back to Mwanza.
