Tour Features

Nxai Pan National Park encompasses approximately 2,580 square kilometers of pristine wilderness, including the vast salt pans which give the park its name. Once ancient lakes, these pans have been transformed into acacia savanna with the passage of eons and are now home to a rich concentration of wildlife. A safari in Nxai Pan National Park will also reward you with the chance to walk amongst the giant trees known as Baines’ Baobabs, the oldest of which are believed to be about 1,000 years old.

You'll be collected from the airport.

Your safari to Nxai Pan National Park begins at 5:00 AM, when our experienced guide will meet you at your hotel in Maun. Your drive to Nxai Pan in a 4x4 Land Cruiser will take about three hours. When you arrive at the park, you’ll enjoy a breakfast before exploring the park’s salt pans: Nxai, Kgama-Kgama, and Kudiakam. During this game drive, you’ll spot iconic wildlife like springbok, impala, gemsbok, giraffe, and elephant. Depending on the day there are chances to find predators such as lions etc.

At lunchtime, you’ll venture south to discover the natural spectacle of Baines’ Baobabs. This grove gets its name from explorer Thomas Baines, who was associated with David Livingstone and famously painted the baobabs in 1862. These enormous trees rise from the stark landscape like an oasis in a desert, and they make a perfect spot to have lunch. In the afternoon, you’ll enjoy a game drive on the way back to the park gates arriving roughly around 1700-1800.
