Overview

Lukusuzi National Park is located in the eastern Luangwa Valley in Zambia, on the other side of the Luangwa River from the more famous South Luangwa National Park. Much of the park is a plateau dissected by rocky ridges and rugged valleys. There are no accommodation facilities in Lukusuzi. There is a game scout camp, with no management, and there is just one, very bad game-drive track.

Wildlife & Animals

Lukusuzi National Park has very limited wildlife viewing opportunities. There might be a wild dog, and spotted hyenas might be the main predator. The common antelope species from the Luangwa Valley should be represented in the park. These include puku, waterbuck and impala. Animals will probably be scarce and skittish.

Wildlife Highlights

The park is home to a sizable population of African wild dogs, an endangered species.

Best Time for Wildlife Viewing

Birds

Lukusuzi National Park offers a wide variety of feathered beauties. A particularly special time for birding in the park is during the Emerald Season when the summer rains that fall from around December to March turn the vegetation a luscious green and birds busy themselves with feeding, breeding and nesting.
