This immersive experience blends wildlife encounters, culture, and history — giving you a true taste of Kenya before your safari begins. Spend your morning visiting the David Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage, where you’ll meet baby elephants rescued from the wild, and the Giraffe Centre, where you can hand-feed endangered Rothschild giraffes. - Day 1 - Nairobi City Tour
Your Nairobi adventure begins with a morning pick-up from your hotel or the airport by your Darvin Travellers guide, who will brief you on the day’s activities. The first stop is the David Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage, one of Kenya’s most beloved wildlife sanctuaries. Here, you’ll watch baby elephants being fed and playing in the mud as their keepers share touching stories about their rescue and rehabilitation. The experience offers a rare opportunity to get up close with these gentle giants before they are released back into the wild.
From there, continue to the Giraffe Centre, home to the endangered Rothschild giraffe. You’ll have the chance to hand-feed these graceful animals from an elevated platform and learn about ongoing conservation efforts. It’s an unforgettable experience that perfectly captures Nairobi’s unique blend of urban life and wildlife conservation.
Afterwards, enjoy lunch at one of Nairobi’s popular restaurants — options include Tamambo Karen Blixen, Boho Eatery, or the world-famous Carnivore Restaurant, where you can sample authentic Kenyan cuisine in a lively setting. In the afternoon, you’ll visit the Karen Blixen Museum, the historic farmhouse of the “Out of Africa” author, nestled at the foot of the Ngong Hills. The museum offers a glimpse into Kenya’s colonial past and literary heritage, complete with scenic gardens and antique furnishings. Alternatively, guests can visit the Nairobi National Museum, which showcases Kenya’s diverse cultural, historical, and natural treasures.
Before the day ends, make an optional stop at Kazuri Beads, a local women’s cooperative that produces beautiful handmade jewelry and pottery — perfect souvenirs to remember your trip. As the afternoon winds down, your guide will drive you back to your hotel or continue the journey toward Lake Naivasha to begin your safari.

Getting There
Tourists can visit these safari locations once in Kenya and can show up via air, land or ocean, however, flights are the most favoured mode of transport. Kenya is a huge nation and while you can go via vehicle on a safari circuit, getting between the various regions is better on a booked flight.
Kenya's main airport is Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (NBO), located 15km/9mi southeast of Nairobi. Kenya's second international Airport is Moi International Airport (MBA), located 9km/6mi west of Mombasa, but aside from flights to Zanzibar, this is primarily used for domestic and charter flights.
From Nairobi or Mombasa, one can fly or drive between reserves, or opt to do a bit of both. Most domestic flights out of Nairobi depart from Wilson Airport (WIL), 6km/4mi south of Nairobi.
