  • Day 1 - Lusaka to Lower Zambezi – Arrival at Baines’ River Lodge

Morning – Journey from Lusaka to the Lower Zambezi

Your Lower Zambezi luxury safari begins in Lusaka with an early morning departure for the Lower Zambezi. Depending on your preferred travel arrangements, you can travel by private road transfer or scheduled light aircraft, subject to availability.

The road journey takes approximately 5–6 hours, covering around 420 kilometres, while a scheduled charter or light aircraft flight can significantly reduce travel time. The journey provides an opportunity to experience Zambia’s changing landscapes, from Lusaka’s urban surroundings to rural communities, woodland, and the spectacular Zambezi Valley.

Upon arrival in the Lower Zambezi, continue to Baines’ River Lodge, your luxury riverside retreat.

    Midday – Arrival and Check-In

Arrive at Baines’ River Lodge and receive a warm welcome from the lodge team. After a short safari briefing and orientation, settle into your private accommodation surrounded by the natural beauty of the Lower Zambezi.

Enjoy lunch overlooking the Zambezi River, with time to relax and take in the peaceful wilderness setting.

Afternoon – First Lower Zambezi Safari Adventure

Later in the afternoon, embark on your first safari experience. Depending on seasonal conditions and the lodge’s activity schedule, this may include a canoe safari, boat-based river activity, or another guided safari experience.

The Zambezi River provides an exceptional setting for wildlife viewing. Keep watch for African elephants, hippos, crocodiles, buffalo, waterbuck, impala, and numerous water birds along the riverbanks and channels.

Your professional guide will introduce you to the area’s wildlife, explain safari safety procedures, and share insights into animal behaviour and the Lower Zambezi ecosystem.

Evening – Zambezi Sundowners and Dinner

Return to the lodge as the African sun begins to set. Enjoy a relaxing sundowner experience overlooking the Zambezi River, surrounded by the sounds of the African bush.

Dinner is served at the lodge, featuring freshly prepared cuisine and a selection of beverages.

After dinner, relax on your private deck or enjoy an optional stargazing experience, taking advantage of the clear African night skies.

    Main Destination: Lower Zambezi NP

    Accommodation: Baine's River Camp

Meals & Drinks: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner Included

  • Day 2 - Full-Day Lower Zambezi Wildlife Safari

    Early Morning – Game Drive

Wake before sunrise for an exciting Lower Zambezi game drive. The early morning is one of the best times to explore the wilderness as temperatures are cooler and wildlife is often active.

With an experienced safari guide, venture into the surrounding wilderness in search of iconic African wildlife. Depending on the season and wildlife movements, sightings may include:

    • African elephants
    • Lions
    • Cape buffalo
    • Hippos
    • Antelope species
    • Giraffes
    • Warthogs
    • Crocodiles
    • Diverse birdlife

Your guide will explain animal behaviour, tracks, signs, vegetation, and the ecological importance of the Lower Zambezi ecosystem.

    Morning – Breakfast and Leisure

Return to the lodge for a well-earned breakfast.

The remainder of the morning provides time to relax and enjoy the lodge’s tranquil riverside environment. Take a refreshing swim, relax on your private deck, enjoy birdwatching, or simply appreciate the sounds and scenery of the Zambezi Valley.

Depending on lodge availability, guests may also arrange an optional guided nature walk or photography experience.

    Midday – Lunch

Enjoy lunch at the lodge before preparing for your afternoon safari adventure.

The relaxed midday schedule allows you to escape the heat of the day while enjoying the comfort of your luxury accommodation.

Afternoon – Choose Your Safari Adventure

In the afternoon, head back into the wilderness for another guided safari experience.

Depending on conditions and availability, choose between:

    Canoe Safari:

Glide quietly along the Zambezi waterways, offering an intimate perspective of the river ecosystem and opportunities to observe elephants, hippos, crocodiles, birds, and other wildlife.

    Game Drive:

Explore a different section of the Lower Zambezi wilderness in search of wildlife and spectacular landscapes.

Your guide will adapt the experience according to wildlife movements, weather, seasonal conditions, and your interests.

    Evening – Sundowners and Dinner

Return to the river for another spectacular African sunset.

Enjoy sundowners while watching the changing colours of the Zambezi Valley before returning to the lodge for dinner.

For guests interested in nocturnal wildlife, an optional night safari or night activity may be arranged where available and subject to lodge and park operating conditions.

  • Day 3 - Zambezi River, Wildlife and Wilderness Adventure

Early Morning – River or Walking Safari

Start your third day with an immersive Lower Zambezi safari experience.

Depending on conditions and the lodge’s daily activity schedule, choose between an early morning canoe safari, boat safari, or guided walking safari.

A sunrise river experience offers beautiful views across the Zambezi as wildlife becomes active along the riverbanks.

A walking safari provides a completely different perspective of the African wilderness. Walk with a qualified guide and learn how to identify animal tracks, understand wildlife behaviour, recognise plants, and appreciate the smaller details of the ecosystem that can easily be missed from a vehicle.

    Morning – Breakfast and Relaxation

Return to the lodge for breakfast followed by free time.

Relax by the swimming pool, enjoy your private deck, read a book overlooking the river, or simply immerse yourself in the peaceful surroundings.

Spa treatments may also be available as an optional addition, subject to lodge availability.

    Midday – Optional Cultural Experience

For travellers interested in local culture, an optional community or village experience may be arranged where available and in advance.

Meet local communities, learn about traditional livelihoods, and gain insight into life around the Lower Zambezi.

Alternatively, enjoy a relaxed lunch at the lodge and spend the afternoon at leisure.

Afternoon – Fishing, Canoeing or Game Drive

Continue your Lower Zambezi adventure with a choice of activities, subject to availability and seasonal conditions.

    Options may include:

    • Guided game drive
    • Canoe safari
    • Fishing excursion
    • Boat safari
    • Nature and photography experience

Your safari guide will tailor the experience around wildlife activity and your interests.

    Evening – Zambezi Sunset Cruise

As your final full day in the Lower Zambezi comes to an end, enjoy a memorable Zambezi River sunset cruise.

Cruise along the river while watching elephants gather at the water, hippos surface from the shallows, crocodiles rest along the banks, and birds return to their roosts.

Raise a glass to an unforgettable African safari as the sun sets over the Zambezi.

Return to Baines’ River Lodge for your final dinner and a relaxed evening beneath the stars.
