- Day 1 - Have flight from Addis Ababa to Gondar
Fly from Addis Ababa to Gondar in the morning and begin your journey into the highlands. Drive through the historic countryside toward Simien Mountains National Park, stopping in Debark to process permits and meet your local guides and scouts. After lunch, continue on rugged mountain roads into the park. The landscape quickly transforms into dramatic escarpments and deep valleys. Arrive at Sankaber campsite in the late afternoon. First wildlife encounters begin here with Gelada baboon troops feeding along the cliffs, plus sightings of klipspringer and soaring Lammergeyer vultures. Overnight camping under the stars in the highlands.

- Day 2 - Sankaber – Jinbar Waterfall – Gich Campsite
Start a full trekking day along the spectacular eastern escarpment. Walk through dramatic cliff edges where Gelada baboons move in large groups and Hamadryas baboons can occasionally be seen in lower zones. The trail leads to the powerful Jinbar Waterfall cascading into a deep canyon. Birdlife is rich and visible throughout the day, including Lammergeyer, thick-billed raven, and various highland endemics. In the afternoon, continue trekking or ride horseback across open grasslands to Gich Campsite, where golden sunset views stretch across the Simien plateau. Overnight camping at Gich.

- Day 3 - Gich – Imet Gogo – Chennek Campsite
Trek through one of the most scenic sections of the Simien Mountains. Reach the iconic Imet Gogo viewpoint, offering 360-degree panoramic views of cliffs, valleys, and volcanic formations. The trail is alive with Gelada baboons and diverse alpine bird species. Continue across ridges and open landscapes toward Chennek. This area increases chances of spotting wildlife such as Walia ibex on steep cliffs. Arrive at Chennek campsite for overnight stay surrounded by dramatic peaks.

- Day 4 - Chennek – Buhait Peak – Return to Lodge
Early morning ascent to Buhait Peak, one of the highest points in the Simien range, offering breathtaking views over Ethiopia’s northern highlands. This is a strong wildlife and photography day, especially for ibex and birdlife in the early hours. After descending, drive back toward the park boundary. Transfer to a comfortable lodge near Simien Mountains National Park for rest, hot meals, and relaxation after days of trekking.

- Day 5 - Gondar – Departure
After breakfast, drive back to Gondar through the mountain landscapes, enjoying final views of the Simien highlands. Most of the visitors arrive at the Bole International Airport (ADD) in Addis Ababa. Usually, the Safari operator picks you up at the airport and takes care of any travel arrangements from there. If you are already in the region it’s possible to get in by land from Sudan, Kenya and Djibouti. It is best to stay away from the borders of South Sudan and Somalia. Drive-around tours are also available (especially in southern Ethiopia). Even when flying around, covering some distances by car can be very rewarding as you'll see some of the Ethiopian countrysides.
