The park has volcanic soil that supports many habitats, making it very potential for Big Five spotting in a single day visit. Inside the park, there's Lake Magadi, which provides a home for many birds. Apart from that, the park is well known for the existence of many Maasai families living in their circular-oriented Bomas.
