Overview – Maputo
Maputo, the capital city of Mozambique, is known for its beautiful beaches, historical landmarks, and vibrant culture. While it may not be as well-known for safari tourism as other African destinations, there are still plenty of opportunities to explore the country's wildlife.
Some of the popular wildlife reserves and parks near Maputo include:
- Maputo Elephant Reserve - located just a short drive from the city, this reserve is home to a variety of wildlife including elephants, hippos, crocodiles, and a variety of bird species.
- Kruger National Park - while not located in Mozambique, this famous park is just a short drive across the border in South Africa and offers some of the best wildlife viewing opportunities in Africa.
- Gorongosa National Park - located in central Mozambique, this park is home to lions, elephants, zebras, and many other species. It's a bit farther from Maputo, but well worth the trip for those interested in wildlife viewing.
In addition to wildlife viewing, visitors to Maputo can also enjoy a range of other activities such as beachcombing, surfing, visiting historical landmarks, and exploring the city's markets and restaurants.
